Could a migraine increase your eye pressure when they check during an eye exam?
I was just curious because I noticed someone asking questions about eye pressure, and I always wondered if I came in with a migraine if that might put pressure on my eye on the side I have migraines on and affect it when they test my pressure. If I do I always tell the lady who is working there that I am suffering from one in case it makes any difference.
I seem to think it affects my vision on the other tests, and the tests always makes my headache worse. That and when I do get a migraine I sometimes get a throbbing or twitching feeling in my eye/face on my right side as I typically get right sided migraines.

1. No, I don't think it would make any difference. I can't think of a reason it would - but there aren't any studies done on these sorts of things because people who are having migraines don't like having these tests done (obviously).
A few things can affect pressure - holding your breath and tight neckwear make a bit of a difference.
2. Hi: I don't think that migraines will cause you to have increased pressures during an eye exam. However, if you have a visual field test the results may show that you have a little bit of vision loss if you have the "aura" that sometimes come with migraines. The same visual field test at a later time when your migraine is over will probably be normal. Of course, it is always wise to have your pressures checked at any time to be sure. I am an optometric assistant and in our office we include pressure checks (glaucoma) and recommend visual field tests regularly. If you do have increased pressures at any time you should ask your doctor about that and also your migraine situation.I guess what I am saying that is I don't think the two problems are necessarily related but always ask the doctor to be sure. The doctor is the expert on this and if you are concerned you should consult him or her to be sure.
